PWH Morning Skate: Colorado Avalanche Enter The PWH Power Rankings Chat
The Colorado Avalanche have been below the radar for most of the season, but they are gaining steam at the right time of year
With the NHL regular season entering it’s final few weeks, we’ve got another round of Pucks with Haggs NHL Power Rankings ready to go. Here they are:
1) Boston Bruins (57-11-5) – The next win for the Boston Bruins will set the franchise record for the Original Six team in a single season. That is just an amazing accomplishment.
2) Carolina Hurricanes (47-16-9) – The Hurricanes are the No. 2 team in the East right now way behind the Boston Bruins, but they gave the B’s everything they could handle before falling in the shootout on Sunday.
3) Vegas Golden Knights (46-21-6) – The Golden Knights have won four games in a row and finally have their ace goaltender back, which has optimism high out on Vegas about their odds. Get it…Vegas…odds.
4) New Jersey Devils (46-19-8) – The Devils are shaping up to be a real X-factor in the Eastern Conference playoffs. It’s hard to tell how they are going to do once the postseason begins.
5) Colorado Avalanche (43-23-6) – The Avalanche had a long way to climb from to get within the top echelon this season, but they are there when it matters most and have gone 8-2-0 in their last 10 games. Watch out for the Avs in the playoffs.
With the PWH Power Rankings in the books, here are today’s links from around the hockey world:
*Could a long-rumored move of Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Montreal Canadiens finally be in the offing? It sure seems like the Winnipeg Jets are going to break up the band at some point soon. (Yahoo! Sports)
*Entertaining piece on team-mandated fines around the league, which seem to center quite a bit around clothes and wardrobe. (The Athletic)
*Brass Bonanza was played early and often on Sunday night as the Carolina Hurricanes played their annual Hartford Whalers night game while donning the old uniforms. It’s a fun theme night for the Canes, but I think it still makes a lot of people in Connecticut pretty salty.
*Is there some kind of goalie controversy brewing in Toronto about which puck stopper is going to get the call to start the Stanley Cup playoffs? (TSN)
*James Reimer opens up about not wearing a Pride jersey during Pride Night with the San Jose Sharks, and I’ll link to it though I honestly don’t even want to hear it. (San Jose Hockey Now)
*Gary Bettman is bullish on the interest among suitors to be the new owners of the Ottawa Senators, and that’s good news for the league.
*For something completely different: A great collection of stories on Tom Brady from his former New England Patriots teammates (The Athletic)
