Marchand Keying On 'Gratitude' As He Looks To Carry Bergeron Legacy For Boston Bruins

BRIGHTON, MA – Brad Marchand isn’t concerned about being named the 21st captain of the Boston Bruins in their Original Six franchise history.

The B’s left winger and one of the lone holdovers from the 2011 Stanley Cup team (the other on the Bruins is Milan Lucic, who just re-signed with the Black and Gold over the summer) views wearing the “C” as a great honor, but also knows that any NHL leadership mantle is a group thing rather than a one-man show.

It was that way when Zdeno Chara was captain for over a decade, it was the same when Patrice Bergeron was captain for the last three seasons and it will be the same exact scenario with the next Boston Bruins captain whether it’s Marchand, Charlie McAvoy or David Pastrnak among a strong group of viable captain candidates.

Consequently, it’s not something Marchand is staying up at night thinking about.
