Lucic Ready For 'Go Time' With Boston Bruins
The 35-year-old Bruins power forward is happy to be back in Boston and ready to "step up" into a physical, leadership role
BRIGHTON, MA – Milan Lucic still remembers the first time he came to Boston with just a single hockey bag in tow and pretty much nothing else as a hopeful teenager with dreams of someday making the NHL.
“One of my friends dropped me off here [at Warrior Arena] in his Ford F-150 because I have so many bags here,” said Lucic, with a smile while acknowledging his arrival back in Boston last weekend. “The first time I came to Boston I came with one bag, a hockey bag and my sticks. This time around it was 23 bags and three kids, and all of that. So it’s a different time in my life, but I definitely think I can still bring a lot to this team and this organization.
“I’ve said it all summer long, it just feels right every time I wear this logo and support these colors. To have that opportunity again became a no-brainer the closer I came to July 1 [and the open of NHL free agency].”
That fateful first few moments for Lucic as a Boston Bruins were over 15 years ago as the bruising left winger, since then, has become a husband, a father, a Stanley Cup champion and a fearsome forward that’s racked up 1,299 penalty minutes in 1,173 games along with over 200 goals and nearly 600 points.
Now it’s a totally different story as the 35-year-old Lucic settles back into the city of Boston that’s always felt like a second home to him, and readies to be part of a new leadership group in the Boston Bruins dressing room with both Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci gone to retirement.
