JVR Off to Strong, Productive Start For Boston Bruins
The 35-year-old is living up to advanced billing as a scoring net-front presence on the power play
This season isn’t the first one where James van Riemsdyk was suiting up for a new team in his 15th NHL season, so the 34-year-old is used to making favorable, quick first impressions on his new group.
The 6-foot-3, 208-pounder did exactly that in the first couple of games for the Boston Bruins by potting a pair of goals in Boston’s 3-2 win over the Nashville Predators last weekend while serving as a viable weapon on the power play. That’s what he was brought into Boston via free agency to do while playing the net-front on the man advantage, and that’s exactly how he beat out other veteran forward candidates like Alex Chiasson in training camp while slowly approaching 100 power play goals in his career (currently at 89).
