Hagel Contract Means Big Pay Day Coming For Jake DeBrusk
The Boston Bruins winger could be looking at a similar contract based on comparable production to Brandon Hagel
The NHL transactions continue to flow this summer even as the hockey world is finishing out their summer vacations with winter most definitely coming.
This week the Tampa Bay Lightning inked 24-year-old forward Brandon Hagel to an eight-year contract extension for $52 million that will pay him $6.5 million per season as a big future piece of the Bolts.
It continues the delicate salary cap dance that Tampa Bay has had to limbo through over the last few seasons to keep a competitive core group together, and also rewards a young forward that busted out for 30 goals and 64 points last season. Big extensions for Hagel, Mikhail Sergachev and Anthony Cirelli in the last few seasons have made them the future core Lightning group with guys like Steve Stamkos and Victor Hedman on the wrong side of 30 years old at this point.
It may also have some ramifications for the Boston Bruins and their future contract negotiations with winger Jake DeBrusk, who has one more year left on his current deal with the Black and Gold.
