Fenway Sports Group Looking To Strike Lightning Twice With Penguins, Kyle Dubas
The Penguins have hired the 37-year-old "boy wonder" as their new President of Hockey Operations after missing the playoffs
It’s no surprise that Fenway Sports Group is looking to strike lightning twice with a “boy wonder” hire to lead a sports franchise.
After hiring 20-something Theo Epstein to guide the Boston Red Sox organization to multiple world championships while breaking an 86-year-old curse, the Pittsburgh Penguins have tapped 37-year-old Kyle Dubas as their new President of Hockey Operations after clearing the decks with the firings of Ron Hextall and Brian Burke over the last few weeks.
Clearly, they needed a monumental change after missing the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time in 16 seasons and Dubas represents that in a major way.
This all comes after an eye-opening story from The Athletic about some of the dysfunction that had plagued the Penguins as they missed the playoffs this season, where it felt like even Sidney Crosby was chafing at some of the actions coming from Penguins management. Now they have Dubas in place at the top after he built the Toronto Maple Leafs into a regular season powerhouse, and Mike Sullivan signed for the long haul behind the bench as the coach following out the marching orders.
