COLUMN: Bruins 'Unhappy' with Team USA Medical Staff Amidst McAvoy Injury Saga
B's star defenseman is out for Thursday night's championship game, and will be out for the Bruins when the NHL regular season resumes
In a befuddling sequence of events over the last few days, Charlie McAvoy has gone from a Team USA stalwart that played a starring role in an epic win over Team Canada to an injured player in the hospital with a murky short-term prognosis for his NHL club.
It seems pretty clear the Bruins are also “extremely unhappy” with the medical staff for Team USA after treatment that saw McAvoy trotted out for that game against Team Canada after suffering a shoulder injury against Team Finland, and then suffering from a resulting infection as a result of the shoulder injury. Hockey Night in Canada host Elliotte Friedman doled out some informed speculation that the infection may have been caused by a shot given to the Bruins defenseman so he could play against Team Canada, a pretty extreme measure for a midseason tournament with the rest of the NHL regular season waiting to start this weekend.
