Bruce Cassidy Is Truly Getting The Last Laugh
The fired Boston Bruins coach is two wins away from a return to the Stanley Cup Final with the Vegas Golden Knights
You’ve got to wonder what exactly is going through Bruce Cassidy’s mind right now.
It probably looks a little something like this when he’s checking the Stanley Cup playoff standings.
The Vegas Golden Knights head coach is in his first season guiding the Golden Knights and sits on a 2-to-0 lead over the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Final, just two wins away from pushing to the Stanley Cup Final for the second time in his NHL head coaching career after coming up painfully short in Game 7 of the 2019 Stanley Cup Final.
That bitter defeat, of course, came as the Boston Bruins bench boss before a number of his players helped get him fired a summer ago because he was too demanding, too critical of them publicly, and held them too accountable after mistakes were repeatedly made on the ice. Given the way the Bruins players folded like a soccer parent’s game chair in the first round of this spring’s playoffs against the Florida Panthers, it’s awfully revealing that Cassidy is on the cusp of another Stanley Cup shot while the Bruins fell woefully short despite 65 wins, 135 points and a whole host of players that got exactly what they wanted all season long.
