Are Bruins Sticking Status Quo With Their Goaltending Duo?
After high suspicion that one of their goalies would be moved this offseason, the Boston Bruins may end up sticking with Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman for one more year
It’s a “never say never” kind of situation with the Boston Bruins when it comes to their offseason, and the ongoing compliance to next season’s salary cap.
The B’s have approximately $5.4 million in salary cap space, per our friends at PuckPedia, and still have two unsigned young players in Trent Frederic and Jeremy Swayman awaiting salary cap arbitration hearings next month. That should still be enough cap space to sign both players barring negotiations or the hearing going off the rails, even under the recent circumstances with Tampa Bay Lightning power forward Tanner Jeannot signing a two-year, $5.33 million contract with Tampa.
Some have pointed to Jeannot as a restricted free agent comparable to Frederic that could elevate his contract demands to a similar $2.65 million AAV neighborhood, but this humble hockey writer doesn’t believe that’s the case.
Let’s illustrate why Frederic’s career numbers don’t quite line up with Jeannot as a comparable to the Boston Bruins forward.
